5 Reasons Why You Need an Email List

Have you been putting off your monthly newsletter, updates, or promo emails? Email marketing has too many great benefits to be putting it on the back burner and saying “I’ll start it next month”. It’s May 2nd and if you haven’t already started drafting your monthly newsletter now is the time to start. I like to start each new month with one new business intention even if it’s something small like writing down daily tasks. Here is your reminder to set the intention this May to send out a newsletter because your email list is a very valuable and effective business strategy. Here are 5 reasons you should have an email list as a small business owner!

1. It Builds Trust

1. It Builds Trust 〰️

There’s no hiding it, sending out emails to customers/clients helps build trust. The email comes from you and is personalized. Email lists also let customers feel like they are a part of something because they get the know about special deals, updates, and important things within your business that other outside people may not get to hear by not being on the email list. This helps build trust and a connection.

2. It Creates Personal Relationships

When you have an email list, you are able to create and send out your brand message with your special twist. When people get an email from your business they have the opportunity to respond and ask questions which in turn builds a trusting relationship. Being a business owner you want to be personable towards your clients, and emails are a great way to do that.

3. It's Customizable

3. It's Customizable 〰️

The other great thing about email lists is that they’re customizable, meaning that not all clients are the same and some emails will fit some clients and not others. Depending on the type of content you’re promoting and sending out it may be best to “tag” your clients, some common tags are based on location, the type of service you do for them, current clients, prospects, etc. All of those are great ways to tag and look at your email list a little differently in order to get each individual the most accurate content. Some common ones I’ve done are drip campaigns for prospects to try to get them to reach out, but doing that for people that are already clients wouldn’t be beneficial. Another great example is doing a referral program launch and sending it to people tagged clients that way you aren’t trying to get referrals from someone who isn’t a client yet.

4. You Own Your Email List

〰️

4. You Own Your Email List 〰️

The 4th reason to have an email list is because you own it and besides your website it’s the only thing you have control over when it comes to your business. I know that may sound crazy, but when it comes to social media all of your followers are actually owned by that social media company. With that being said those are GREAT platforms to be marketing on, but they are changing their policies constantly and you never know what they will add.

5. Get Visitors to Return to Your Website

Lastly, another great reason to have an email list is to get people back to your website. Often times people don’t go back to your website without there being a reason, but when you send out an email you can backlink pictures, buttons and more back to your website. People are a lot more likely to go back to your website when they see an email from you in their inbox and you can also offer specials or announcements from them to click on and get back to your website.

At the end of the day there are a lot of great reasons to have an email list and at the very least it is a great way to tag and sort your contacts in an organized way that doubles as a great form of marketing.
